How to Become A Better Salesperson

When you have a national sales career, you can’t just stop or be satisfied with what you can do.  To achieve and surpass your sales goals, you need to be a better salesperson, which obviously takes certain skills.

Here are a few tips to help you become a better salesperson:

Be Approachable

No matter how you sell your product or service; in-person, on the phone, or online, you need to be nice and look or sound approachable.  Becoming more relatable to the person you are dealing with is done by establishing a mutual interest.  You can talk about shared hobbies or favorite movies and books while talking to your clients.  This helps to make your client feel comfortable and allows the conversation to continue smoothly.

Focus on the Beneficial Features of the Product

Whatever it is that you are selling, always remember that a potential customer will make a purchase for the benefits they will enjoy from it.  Therefore, during your pitch, be sure to describe the benefits rather than the technical specifications of the product.  Most of the time, being too technical about the product will make your listener become very bored.  To avoid this, you could share real stories from previous customers, without mentioning their names, that highlight the best features and qualities of the product.

Listen to the Customer

When dealing with a customer or a prospect, always have your ears open to what they have to say. This will help you understand what they want and what they need.  When you understand your customer’s interests and expectations, you can outline the benefits of your product in a better way and eventually close the deal.

These are only a few basic tips to grow as a better salesperson and excel in your sales career.  Remember, no matter what you sell and how good your pitch is, your product may not always be suitable for every customer you meet.  You need to be flexible and ready for each potential customer.  It is also important to be prepared to face unwillingness or objections, a characteristic that will further mold you into a better salesperson.
